In memory of Yuriy Siletsky
On July 12, 2025, in his 63rd year of life, the well-known Ukrainian geomorphologist and physical geographer, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, senior research fellow, and associate professor of the Department of Earth Sciences and Geomorphology at the Faculty of Geography of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Yurii Andriiovych Siletskyi, passed away.
Yurii Andriiovych Siletskyi (October 14, 1962, Stanyslaviv (now Ivano-Frankivsk) – July 12, 2025, Kyiv).
In 1987 he graduated from the Department of Geomorphology and Paleogeography of the Faculty of Geography at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University. After completing his studies, he entered postgraduate studies at the Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where in 1992 he defended his Candidate’s dissertation titled: “Valley-River Geocomplexes: Structure, Classification, and Problems of Environmental Management (on the example of the Southern Bug River Valley)” (scientific supervisor: Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor O. M. Marynych).
In 1991 he began working at the Faculty of Geography of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv as a research fellow. In 1993, after defending his Candidate’s dissertation, he moved to the position of senior research fellow.
From 1998 to 2014 he headed the Research Laboratory of Landscape Ecology and Aerospace Environmental Monitoring.
In 2003 Yurii Andriiovych graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and received a Master’s degree in Finance and Credit.
In 2015–2016 he worked as an associate professor at the Faculty of Natural and Geographical Sciences of the Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University.
Yurii Andriiovych combined his scientific activity with teaching at his home department. He taught a number of specialized courses, including Geomorphology and Natural Resource Management, and supervised geological field practice in the Kaniv Nature Reserve.
Researcher and teacher Yurii Andriiovych left a significant mark on Ukrainian geographical education and science. He was the author of more than 80 scientific publications, including five monographs. His dedication to his work, friendly attitude toward colleagues and students, humanity, and sociability were and will remain for us an example of true professionalism and high human qualities.
Yurii Andriiovych was buried in the city of Vyshneve, Kyiv region.
The bright memory of him and the warm recollections of the years of working together will forever remain in our hearts.
